Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA, president and CEO of University of Maryland Medical System, visited UM Shore Regional Health on Wednesday, January 22, and presented to a special session of Management Forum in the HEC at Shore Medical Center at Easton. His topic, “A Vision for the Future” was summed up as “Building upon the University of Maryland Medical System’s tradition of excellence in patient care and innovation, we aspire to be a national thought leader in the transformation of health care.”

The Vision is driven by four themes:

  • High Quality Care – relentless drive to deliver compassionate high quality and family centered care
  • Commitment to Community – Unwavering commitment to the health and well being of our communities and expanding our relationships as anchor institutions in each community we serve
  • Transform Health Care Delivery – Leverage the size and scale of our statewide health care system to transform the way we deliver health care, bringing more value our patients and their communities
  • Innovation and Discovery – Invest in and partner with stakeholders who are committed to the highest ideals of innovation in discovery-based medicine and health education

In his remarks, Suntha noted that other states are looking to Maryland as a leading state in the value-based model of health care reimbursement and that UMMS is increasingly viewed as a true system in a time when “system-ness” has become key to maintaining viable hospitals and other health care services across the nation.

In addition to his presentation to Management Forum, Suntha toured the Cancer Center and the Cardiac Intervention Center.
