University of Maryland Shore Regional Health celebrated the grand opening and official ribbon cutting of University of Maryland Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton on June 30.

Located at 490 Cadmus Lane in Easton, the new Pavilion provides the region’s residents access to multiple health care specialties and services in a centralized location. The newly renovated space – totaling more than 24,000 square feet – is being leased by UM Shore Regional Health and is home to medical specialists including Laurie Porter, DO, and Timothy Schneider, MD – Ear, Nose and Throat; Walid Kamsheh, MD and Trisha Lemay, CRNP – Neurology and Sleep Medicine; Khalid Kurtom, MD, FAANS, FACS – Neurosurgery; Duane Cespedes, MD, John Foley, MD, John Knud-Hansen, MD, and Christopher Runz, DO – Urology; Duane Cespedes, MD – Continence and Pelvic Health; and Dale Jafari, CRNP – Women’s Care. Plans are underway for Family Practice to open in the new space within the next several months.

“The landscape of health care is ever changing and as an organization, we are focusing much of our efforts on keeping the members of our communities healthy through enhanced and coordinated outpatient services such as preventive care, health education, access to physicians and providers, and a variety of other programs that will help us maintain the wellness of the patients we serve,” comments Kenneth Kozel, president and CEO, UM Shore Regional Health. “To achieve improved health and wellness within our communities, our goal at UM Shore Regional Health is to provide high-quality, accessible health care programs and services throughout the region.”

John Dillon, Board chairman, UM Shore Regional Health, remarks, “The opening of UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton is a step forward in living the mission of UM Shore Regional Health, which is Creating Healthier Communities Together”. He continues, “As we look into the future of this organization and to health care as a whole, we see more facilities like this one – state-of-the-art facilities where patients can receive coordinated, community-based services that maintain their health and wellbeing.”

In addition to the benefits and convenience that the physical plant of the new Pavilion offers, UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton features the latest technology in Electronic Medical Records (EMR), which are digital versions of a patient’s chart, containing his or her complete medical history. Benefits of an EMR system are that it allows providers to track patient data over a period of time; identify patients who are due for preventive visits and screenings; monitor data such as vaccination records and blood pressure screenings; and improve the overall quality of patient care offered by health care providers, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Additional physicians will move to UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton after the second phase of the project is completed, totaling another 50,000 square feet, which is anticipated within the next 12 months. Those medical specialties will include pediatrics, cardiology, surgical care, wound care and pulmonary care.
