May 2020

Dear Friends,

It is safe to say that all of our lives have significantly changed over the last few months.  It is important to acknowledge that these are uncertain times because of recent events surrounding COVID-19.

As you continue to meet this challenge each day, know that the University of Maryland Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown is ready to serve your emergency needs, operating 24 hours a day, every day of the year, treating patients for acute illnesses, injuries and trauma.  Located off 301/50 in Queenstown, the Emergency Center now serves more than 16,000 patients per year.

Because of COVID-19, the 8th Annual Claws for a Cause crab feast fundraiser will become a Cause without Claws.  As a healthcare frontline organization endorsing social distancing, we are inviting you to participate this year without the event!  Your support is needed to help purchase a Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner power injector for the Emergency Center.  Our goal is to raise $45,000.

CT scanners are used to diagnose a wide variety of disease and trauma, such as vascular abnormalities and bleeds as a result of pathology or trauma, or in evaluating blood supply to organs for determining perfusion, malignancy or other conditions.  A power injector is used to push contrast media into the veins at specific rates so that the CT scanner can image organs and vessels at the best times for diagnosis.

Today, we ask that you consider a donation of $90, $150, $500, $1,000 or more to support the UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown. Your gift is tax deductible and will help save many lives. With the power injector, doctors will be able to make a better diagnosis during a patient’s CT scan at the Emergency Center.

Thank you for considering this request. The UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown is saving lives every day.  All checks can be made payable to UM Memorial Hospital Foundation/Claws and mailed to PO Box 1846, Easton, MD 21601. For your convenience, you may donate online at www.ummhfoundation.org/2020claws/. Together, we will be able to save many lives!

Our heartfelt thanks for your support!  We urge you to help us fight this virus by maintaining a focus on social distancing, staying home when possible and washing your hands to keep you and your family safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
