Shore Medical Center at Easton Wins MSCC “Golden Brain Award”
Emergency services team members from the five counties served by UM Shore Regional Health joined members of the UM Shore Medical Center at Easton Brain Attack Team and several UM SRH senior leaders to celebrate the hospital’s receiving the Golden Brain Award from the Maryland Stroke Center Consortium.
UM Shore Medical Center at Easton’s Brain Attack Team recently received the Golden Brain Award from the Maryland Stroke Center Consortium (MSCC). The MSCC is comprised of representatives from stroke centers in Maryland, including stroke coordinators and stroke center directors, who get together every other month to review stroke care in Maryland and receive updates in stroke care nationally. Representatives from AHA and MIEMSS also attend these meetings.
Each quarter, MSCC presents the Golden Brain Award to the hospital with the fastest median “door to needle (alteplase)” time. UM Shore Medical Center at Easton is the award recipient with the fastest — 31 minutes — for the fourth quarter of 2018. Karen Yarbrough, DNP, CRNP, director, UMMC Comprehensive Stroke Center, announced this award to Nicole Leonard, representing Shore Medical Center at Easton, at the January 25, 2019 MSCC meeting. On Wednesday, March 13, Yarbrough, shown in the above photo seated next to Ken Kozel, far right) delivered the award to Shore Medical Center at Easton, with a cake and gift certificate for the staff involved in stroke care.
