University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced its 2019 Golf Tournament, scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Talbot Country Club in Easton. Proceeds this year will benefit equipment needs in the Surgical Services Department of UM Shore Medical Center at Easton.

Surgical Services covers a broad area that includes the surgery patient’s entire experience, from the pre-anesthesia testing communication through transfer or discharge. While all of those areas are important for quality patient care and a positive patient experience, the operating rooms require the latest in technology and equipment.

Medical technology is evolving rapidly, with new and more advanced, safe and efficient equipment needed to replace existing models on a frequent basis. For UM Shore Medical Center at Easton’s Surgical Services to continue providing state of the art surgical care, the hospital must acquire advanced technology and equipment that often comes at a very high cost. In particular, operating tables are very expensive, especially tables designed for specialty procedures.

One of the items to be purchased through UM Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 2019 Golf Tournament is the Jackson Table, which is used for certain neurosurgeries and urologic surgeries. This table accommodates optimal positioning of the patient, allowing for improved visualization and access to the structures necessary to complete the procedure. The total cost of the Jackson Table and related equipment needed in Surgical Services is approximately $90,000.

The UM Shore Regional Health Golf Tournament will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a single shotgun start. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be served on the course. Following the tournament, there will be a reception and awards ceremony along with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served at the clubhouse. Team registration is $1,500 and limited to 32 teams.

“Sponsorships are important to the UM Shore Regional Health Golf Tournament. They enable your organization to help us purchase needed equipment for Surgical Services at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton and to ensure that surgical patients in our region received the very best medical care,” says F. Graham Lee, vice president for philanthropy. “For those who can’t participate in the tournament, sponsorships at the $500, $1,000, $2,500 or $5,000 levels provide an opportunity to invest in the health of our community.”
